A watched garden never blooms

Ahh, it's good to be home.

I spent the last two weeks on a vacation to the American West. While I was gone, my garden decided to surprise me by roaring to life. I think ignoring it helped.

The wildflowers that I had all but forsaken grew more than a foot and are blooming beautifully!

There are fewer bachelor buttons than I expected, but there are plenty of plains coreopsis, baby's breath, and other lovely, colorful species.

(There's also plenty of thistles, creeping charlie, and other weeds. But that's to be expected in a wildflower garden, right?)

My cucumbers are developing despite all the weeds around them. Eleven of them were even ripe enough to pick. I ate one of them with dinner. Delicious!

I had many green peppers, too. I can't wait for them to ripen!

P.S. Stay tuned for my posts about my trip. I'm calling the series "America the Beautiful".
