Double-decker

When my neighbors tore down their garage, I figured they were doing it to put up a two-car. Nope. They're going all out. They put an addition behind the garage, plus a second floor. It appears they may also be preparing to put a second story on top of the existing house.

Egg

Can you see the egg?

Watch the birdie

The abundance of twigs and dry grass in my yard, not to mention the coconut husk liners in my hanging baskets, were a dream come true for the bird who made this nest.

It's in the south window of the little bedroom.

I love SPRING!

Anyone who knows me knows that I adore springtime. I love the way the earth smells. I love how long the day is. I also love plants!

This is one of my bleeding hearts. Bloom time is still a few weeks away.

This is rhubarb. I don't actually eat it, but I like how it looks.

My daffodils are in full bloom. Surrounding them with annuals grown from seed (like vegetables and wildflowers) makes this bed tough to care for. Next year I think I'll move the daffodils to around the front locust tree.

The peas and lettuce are already planted. I made a handy little trellis out of wood stakes and hardware cloth (poultry fencing) for the tendrils to climb on. I grow the peas mainly for pods. They're awesome in stirfry, but I'll even eat them right off the vine! This year I have two varieties: Drawf Gray Sugar and Oregon Giant. I have two varieties of lettuce, too: Grand Rapids and Iceberg. Head lettuce, like Iceberg, isn't supposed to do well in this climate, but I'm trying it anyway.

I cut a few daffodils to enjoy indoors.

One last trip to the park

While Sarah had lunch with her friend, Papa, the boys and I went to the park. Linc enjoyed the swing. Whenever Papa would stop, he would bounce up and down as if to signal, "More, Papa. More!"

When Nash saw how much fun another kid was having on these swings, he just had to try it.

Nash knew our time was up and did anything he could to prolong the fun. He amused himself with the bleachers.
The entire visit was great. The boys are growing up so fast. It's really wonderful to watch them discover new things. I can't wait 'til they come again!

Kohl Children's Museum

Today we went to the Kohl Children's Museum in Glenview.
There was a hollowed out tree in the nature area. Inside, Mama put on a puppet show.

Nash LOVES the water. They had an entire exhibit dedicated to the power and usefulness of running water. They didn't have raincoats, but they did provide an apron of sorts.

In the builders area, Nash pushed around this mini wheel barrow. He'd be a lot of help around here each spring...

Papa was justifiably proud of his bunny. He's already started working on the squirrel.

Henno?

I think Nash could have driven that car all day long. We had to pry him away.

Papa took Linc through the car wash.

I'm glad we got there early. The grocery store was pretty much empty. Nash was a good navigator with the cart.

He tried several jugs before he found the right one. I guess he was checking the expiration dates.

Big interest across the street

Several Village vehicles showed up this morning to fix a (sewer?) problem across the street. Nash was glued to the west window all morning.

He took up a post to see every second of the excitement.

Monkey see, monkey do.

This should be titled, "Me watching Linc watching Nash watching the earth movers."

P-A-R-K

Even the very mention of "park" sent Nash into a frenzy. So, we referred to it as "P-A-R-K" to avoid the ensuing distress. But we made it a point to go most days, even if only for a short while.

Getting bundled up. It's cold today.

So much to do, so little time!

I win!

Mama gives me kisses while we swing!

Linc hung out with Papa.

On the way home we saw some people driving remote control cars through the property easement. Nash was fascinated. Despite that distraction, he did really well and walked all the way home.

Exploratorium, continued...

Nash had a good time with the train table.

Even the infant area had cool stuff. This was a cushion "U" which could be a crawling tunnel or a rocking chair.

Nash made a bunny in the craft station.

Not quite walking, but he could still climb the slide's stairs with a little help.

The underside of the slide was the perfect area to be out of the foot traffic to enjoy an activity table.

All tuckered out. Nash fell asleep with his bunny souvenir still in his hand.

Exploratorium

"More. More. Dumpster. Dumpster."

While we were at the library, Sarah chatted with a couple whose twin boys were a bit younger than Nash. They suggested visiting the Exploratorium the next day.

They had all kinds of neat stuff at the Exploratorium. These pedalless bikes were a big hit with Nash. The blue one was his favorite.

The infant area had a cute foam saucer thing with a mirror behind it. Linc was in heaven with all the girls hitting on him.

Nash was pretty scared of the big slides and tunnels, but he clearly wanted to see what the big kids were up to. Mama went with him.

It wasn't much of a race, but it was sure fun to be a spectator!

"This is more my speed."
No wheels, just rocking.

Linc didn't love the water as much as Nash did, but we tried to get him interested.

Nash was clearly in his element. They had a pool for floating animals...

...but Nash's favorite was a water arc that changed directions when you stuck your hand into it. It also made a really satisfying splash of water everywhere.

They provided raincoats so as to not get so wet. What a great idea!

Unfortunately, even with a raincoat, two-year-olds can get soaked. Thankfully, they also provided a dryer.

At the library

Every time I go to the Skokie Public Library I say to myself, "I should bring Nash and Linc here. They would love it!" And they did!
We stopped at the aquarium first. The fish were nice and active.
Papa and Nash put on a puppet show.

Just like at my house...

Gucks, gucks, and more gucks!

Even Linc N had a turn in the kitchen.

Like father, like son.

The farm game was made easier when he figured out you just push "Enter" to get the animals to eat and move on.

Here Linc, like this...

We went into the reading room for an organized program. The first part of the program was the "open play time". The handle haulers were much sought after, but Nash managed to snag one.

Even Linc got one until some mean kid tore it away. Laid Back Linc was quick to recover his composure. We didn't stay for the reading program, and we didn't have time to visit the craft room, but the library was still tons of fun!
I'll remember this visit each time I visit the library over lunch.
