It's mystery time again. These plants don't look like the purple bellflower (campanula) that bloomed here last year.

Shasta daisy. These will bloom around Fourth of July.

Peony. White? Last year I got a bud, but it never truly opened, so I could only speculate at the color. This year, I hope the bud opens. I think peonies bloom around Memorial Day.

Clockwise from the top: Siberian iris, rhubarb, rhubarb, Siberian iris, chives, and garlic.
I try not to play favorites with my flowers, but if forced to pick the most beautiful flower on my lot, I would have to pick my Siberian iris. Around Memorial Day, these blades will produce the most stunning purple flower with yellow highlights. I'd love to have about a hundred of these clumps.
The chives will bloom shortly. They get lovely little purple flowers.

I planted lots of kinds of lettuce this year. The ones at the very top are Grand Rapids (like last year), next are Iceberg (also like last year), and toward the bottom is a "salad blend" (including endive, arugula, and even Swiss chard).

Snap peas, doing quite well. These are Oregon Giant. The chartreuse leaves are actually volunteer Grand Rapids lettuce that went to seed in this spot last year. I should transplant them to the lettuce bed.
Soon I'll be planting broccoli to the left.

Ajuga. Every year I'm astounded at the electric purple color.

Spring is a very busy time of year, not just for me but for the birds as well. Unfortunately for this little birdie, her nest is in a false cherry tree that I've marked for destruction. One day soon, this family will be homeless. I think it is a red-winged blackbird. They get super-pissed.

Creeping phlox in pale purple. Thanks, Ma!
I hope it creeps a whole lot this year. It could stop traffic next year.
